Rant ahead:

On this message board I read (not on LJ) with a bunch of other ladies who are all due in October, a lot of them talk about what outfit they are buying to bring the baby home from the hospital in, what outfit they'll dress them in for Christmas, even HALLOWEEN! Yeah the holiday IN October, so the kid would be like 2 weeks old, or maybe less.

All it makes me think is - Some people just have kids because they're like big, living dolls they can play with and dress up. I know that's probably offensive but it's true! Seriously, why else would you want to blow money on a costume for a 2 week old human that can only lay there, poop and cry? It'll never remember it, it'll probably be less comfortable than just a regular baby shirt and possibly hot. So who does it benefit to put it on them? Take a guess.

end rant.

Photo opportunities. That's pretty much it.

Yeah, I'm not even thinking about newborn Halloween costumes. I don't know if that's because I'm cheap or because I don't care. We live out in the country, so I can't imagine I'm going to feel like driving my toddler (who also won't remember) and my two-week-old to some neighborhood 45 minutes away to go trick-or-treating. So far, Emilia has never been trick-or-treating, although to be fair, we did buy her a ladybug costume and took her to a fall carnival last year. This year...cannot imagine doing that.

Oh, but one thing I did do for Emmy's first Halloween (she was seven months old) was buy a costume for her for the following year. I waited until right after Halloween and bought her that ladybug one. I figured she might think dressing up was pretty fun when was about a year and a half, whether it was at Halloween or not.

now THAT is a great idea. Right up my alley! I love buying seasonal stuff at 80% off after the holiday. Though I'm not sure I'll feel up to shopping in early november this year. haha

I remember with Emmy, it was so stressful (she was kind of a stressful infant) that I looked forward to getting out of the house once in a while. I don't know what it's going to be like with TWO babies. I'm a little concerned. :P
